Many photos that will tell the story of what a wonderful time the grads of 1960 had reuniting with school friends, remembering youth, fun, friendships:

  • “Your mother dressed you funny”
  • “Will you adopt me”
  • “My 1st day at Kits this beautiful girl in front of me smiled and as the lady she was became my friend”
  • “I remember you saying you wanted to be a ‘nucleur scientist’ in grade 3 and you did it!”
  • “There was this girl who a group of fellows collectively decided she was the girl they would like to be stranded on a desert island with”
  • “We walked to school together almost every day”
  • “I think we have morphed into the most wonderful grandpersons ever”
  • “We are almost like family after all this time”
  • “I am so happy I came!”

Ron Aird says it all in his email of thanks to the reunion committee –

Thanks everyone – the committee of Doreen, Shirley, Don, Karen,  Sheldon and Ebba – and any I’ve missed!  And thanks to Shirley who  greeted me in the Kitsilano lobby with a memorable hug (you must have  known the apprehension I was feeling as I sat in the cab from the  Sylvia to the school) and Merrilee who remembered we grew up at  opposite ends of the same block of west 15th and Mary Lundy whose calm  presence really is very much of the Mary I remembered and the wry and  kindly observations of Ron Watson and so many other chats and  fragments of chats about where we were, have been and are now.

Sitting on the ferry on Saturday, returning to my home on Saltspring,  I thought about the  Friday night gathering of all of us from 1960 and  about the thread of something that can best be called wonderful that had drawn us all together – perhaps a kindliness, perhaps an assurance  that develops with age, perhaps something of thankfulness for much in  our lives, perhaps an element  of joy – anyway, I’m so very glad  Karen’s sister, Wendy, who lives here on Saltspring, encouraged and  gently pushed me to attend the Friday night of the reunion and I ought  to have planned to attend Saturday too but oh well!

Thanks again, Ron
